By The CSS Process Transformation & Innovation Team
On the bustling floors of 1608 4th street, the goal of improving efficiency to deliver a better customer experience is top of mind for all. Strategic business process and continuous improvement efforts that engage the entire staff are essential to keeping up with work demands, while addressing customer needs. Business Process Improvement (BPI) and Continuous Improvement are ways in which the Process Transformation and Innovation (PTI) Team is helping CSS and campus realize those goals. BPI is more than mapping a process. It’s a way to come together and create improvements together. Similarly, Continuous Improvement is not a project or a program, but a way of operating. It is about learning with each step in the journey.
The PTI Team is leading CSS on this journey with a variety of visual management tools that engage CSS staff and incorporates feedback from campus. Visual management tools, such a process maps and continuous improvement boards are in plain sight and therefore keep these efforts in the forefront for CSS staff. Campus feedback is given in mapping sessions, in interviews about pain points in a process, and in conversations that explore the root cause of issues. The partnering between CSS staff and our campus constituents is vital in creating efficiencies for all.
Creative continuous improvement boards cover the walls at CSS and all staff work together to proactively problem solve on the boards. These boards, and staff actively maintaining the boards, are helping create a culture of continuous improvement which fosters teamwork, participation, continuous learning, and flexibility and demonstrates a proactive approach to preventing problems.
