As you may have heard, Central HR has just switched the campus e-Learning provider to Lynda.com. With its anywhere, anytime video based platform, we feel that Lynda will revolutionize new skill adoption & professional development at UC Berkeley. At the 20 day mark, our user adoption is through the roof, with a whopping 400+ hours of content having already been viewed by staff. But don’t take it from me, here is a testimonial from Shelly Gough, one of our (new) Lynda.com power users:
When I first heard Lynda.com would be our new e-learning provider I was a little wary. Change is always difficult and sometimes uncomfortable. I had just received a request from my manager to start taking supervisor training through our old system when I received the notice we would be switching over to Lynda.com. I was a little freaked out because it was new and my manager had not yet used it, but I should have had no fear because once I logged in and started searching for courses I found a ton that would fit my training needs.
When I logged in, I started clicking around. It was very user-friendly, intuitive, and I didn’t feel like I would mess anything up. I tried searching Supervisor Training but my results didn’t work out so I tried some other keywords. I took a look at the Lynda Library and found the Management pathway, and there were 122 courses at my disposal to choose from! I went through the list of courses and selected trainings I thought would be good for me to start with. Another awesome part about the trainings is that they are all videos (each video does provide a transcript if you want it). I also shared my playlist with my coworkers and my manager (it was very similar to sharing Google Docs and super easy to do).
Lynda.com is going to help me move forward in my career. If they don’t offer videos of courses I am interested in or need, they have a great feedback feature to use. All you do is tell them what you want to learn and Lynda.com will look into adding those courses for you. I will be able to continue my learning using “My Goals” which recommends courses to you based on your path and skills you would like to learn. Going forward, new courses will be added to my recommended list and I can add them to my playlist if I think they will be of value to me! If I don’t like what was recommended to me by Lynda.com I can “dislike” the video and it will disappear from my feed!
I can’t wait to start my journey towards a career in Human Resources Management! It will take time but Lynda.com is going to help me out along the way and for free!
