Engagement is a state of mind and a state of being. No one wants to spend their days/months/years being disengaged at work. Do any of these statements sound like you?
- “I dread getting up in the morning and coming to work.”
- “I have no work goals or projects that interest me.”
- “I don’t have friendly relationships with anyone I work with.”
- “I am not making any worthwhile contributions.”
If you answered “yes” to these statements, you need to help yourself re-engage. Here are some tips to do that…
Take a problem at work that you are fired up about and come up with a solution.
Go to a networking event/meeting/class monthly to interact with colleagues.
Learn something! Find an opportunity in the work you do to learn something new or develop new skills.
Seek out an opportunity to create something new. Be innovative.
Focus on a priority for your team or boss and make progress on it.
You have some responsibility for your engagement, so take control of what you can control – your attitude, your effort, your actions. It will make you a more valuable and satisfied employee!
