CREATE HIGH EXPECTATIONS. CHALLENGE. SUPPORT.
The magic formula for developing others. Encourage others to take on challenging projects and assignments while providing the support needed for risk taking, creativity and experimentation.
FOCUS ON STRENGTHS
People excel when their strengths are acknowledged and leveraged. Look for ways to engage others with projects that employ their talents and innate abilities. Awareness of your own strengths is also important to developing others.
The ability to critically and openly reflect on experience is essential to progress and growth. Make room for others to discuss both their challenges and setbacks as well as their successes.
Listening is an investment in another person’s wellbeing and demonstrates respect. Others will appreciate your interest in their progress, hopes, dreams, and whatever else might come up.
PRAISE AND REWARD
When effort and progress are made praise on the spot, in real time, if possible. Acknowledge effort as well as outcomes. Familiarize yourself with formal University recognition and achievement awards and nomination procedures.
